The tenseness in our muscles (tone) is not consciously controlled by us. Rather, it is the result of stimulus, response, and need. Muscle tension on a specific body area requires muscle relaxation on the opposite side. It goes without saying that the proprioceptive system should function as well as possible for optimal stability, coordination, and ability of relaxation. The consequence is smoother movements and a higher power yield!
